Montana Territory by W.R. Benton and Dahlia Patton

|
Bill Sanders served in the Southern Army for almost four years, seeing thousands of deaths, until one day he takes a bayonet and a little drummer boy sticks a sword in his back. By reflex, he kills the young drummer and it haunts him forever. As he's falling, he is struck in the head by a bullet and awakens in a Confederate hospital. While his injury causes him to suffer seizures, the doctors have no cure.
Discharged, he returns home to a family and a woman, Clara, who waits for him. Bill remembers none of them and has to start his past relationships all over again. It is only after he and Clara are married that his life changes.
One afternoon his small farm is destroyed by a tornado and he decides to fulfill a life-long dream – to move to the wide-open plains of Montana . He heads north with a small wagon train of three families. When Clara dies from a grizzly attack, he wonders how long he can continue surviving. His small group is slowly disappearing due to grizzly bears, snakes, and Indians.
